It is with much regret today that New Zealand announced the passing of one of their greatest legends Sir Edmund Hillary. He was the first man to conquer Everest back in 1953, a major feat in itself today yet alone 50 odd years ago.
New Zealand is in mourning for a great icon (legend) who died at the great age of 88.
He was the first person in New Zealand to ever get his face on a bank note whilst still alive.
He will be sadly missed.
The 6pm news tonight was 40 minutes about Sir Ed, 12 minutes on the sport and the last 8 minutes on weather, he was that important to control the whole evening. To New Zealand there was no other news worthy of knowing about.
