Sir Edmund Hillary

It is with much regret today that New Zealand announced the passing of one of their greatest legends Sir Edmund Hillary.
He was the first man to conquer Everest back in 1953, a major feat in itself today yet alone 50 odd years ago.
New Zealand is in mourning for a great icon (legend) who died at the great age of 88.

He was the first person in New Zealand to ever get his face on a bank note whilst still alive.

He will be sadly missed.

The 6pm news tonight was 40 minutes about Sir Ed, 12 minutes on the sport and the last 8 minutes on weather, he was that important to control the whole evening. To New Zealand there was no other news worthy of knowing about.
