By having a new job it means I need new clothes, well not exactly new clothes, I just need to think more about what I wear to work each day.
Previously I just rocked on up in jeans and a shirt because as soon as I got there I got changed into scrubs.
I have quite a decent wardrobe of clothes at home but it has taken me a few months to get use to having to think each morning about exactly what I am going to wear.
My shoes have all been fine and as summer is now upon us I have been able to utilise all my pretty sandels.
All my pretty dresses are also getting a nice airing out in the world.
However that is where the problem lies, I am wearing stuff that I am not use to wearing. I am not use to wearing skirts and dresses all day. I am not use to wearing shoes with any type of heel on them all day.
And the heels have been my down fall. I don't wear high heels, just little ones, enough to give me a little lift and look really nice.
Yesterday I wore a pretty dress with a nice pair of sandels that had a heel, I got compliments all day about how great I looked.
Today I am wearing trainers on my right foot and a moonboot on my left foot and downing painkillers and anti-inflamatories and getting compliments / questions about "what did you do?"
"Yes what did I do?"
I wore heels all day, walked a lot and managed to roll my ankle a little at some stage during the day. It didn't hurt at the time, but by last night it was a little tender. I decided that rest was all I needed and so did none of the Rest. Ice. Compress. Elevate treatment as I didn't feel I had done anything.
This morning it was uncomfortable so brought a tubigrip bandage on my way to work and wore that. However by mid morning I decided that it was too painful to totally ignore and got an appointment at the Physiotherapists.
I have strained a ligament in my ankle and they are painful. She wants me to get my foot in a neutral position, so leg and foot in a 90 degree angle, however mine won't go there, so she has placed me in a moonboot for 4 days to keep it in a good position and allow it to rest!
Rest with your foot in a fixed position? Hum yea how? It is more uncomfortable in this than it was previously, however this moonboot is of course keeping it in the right position while it fixes, heals and recovers. Previously I was letting it rest, painfree in the wrong position, thereby doing more damage.
So now I am hobbling round ever so elegantly with this black monstrosity on my foot.
My pretty dresses will look lovely on Monday at work with one foot strapped up!
Maybe I need to fight to wear jeans to work everyday?
Live for today, but makes sure you have fun and smile along the way. Look for the joy in everything, even if you have been there a thousand times.

Whoops
Ben got up this morning and decided that he did not want to go to school.
I really wasn't too bothered as he never asks to take a day off school. I know he is tired and we are just about at the end of another term (school holidays start in 2 weeks time)
So I agreed to him staying home, I am here all day with Alex anyway, so makes no difference whether I have 1 or 2 kids.
Ok, so he has been a little pain the whole day. He has bugged me constantly, reminded me of everything possible when we have gone anywhere and generally been a pain. Makes me realise why I send him to school now!
Unfortunately, Alex had a Doctor's appointment today, nothing serious, but 2 minutes before we left the house, I mean I was literally just collecting my bag, when there was this almighty scream. I ran into the garden to discover Ben sat on the floor in the garden holding his head, screaming and telling me he had fallen when jumping off the baby trampoline we have.
I quickly reasured him, gave him a cold cloth for his face, had a quick check and then whipped them out the door to Alex's appointment, knowing I could get a better look at his face once we got to the Doctor's surgery, because then at least we wouldn't be late for the appointment!
How bad a mother does that make me....more worried about missing the appointment than checking my son was ok after a tumble?
Anyway, he is fine. Nicely grazed all up the side of his face, lip, nose, cheak and eye. He is definitely going to go to school tomorrow with a slightly black eye.
The red up his cheak is graze not where he was flushed! He has a few little cuts as well. Actually made a really good mess of himself!
Told him he should have gone to school today!

Swings
Yesterday, Ben had a Teacher Only Day at school.
This meant that there was no school. Ok they did give us about 3 months warning that the day was coming up!
Unfortunately for us, it just fell into place that neither Steve nor I could get the day off work, well I couold only get half the day, so one of Ben's classmates kindly had him over for the morning.
It sounds like he had a great time, playing at the park, eating Ice Cream and having McDonalds for lunch.
Unfortunately, whilst at the park Ben decided to swing a swing, or more like, push the swing but hum, he kinda forget to move when the swing swung back....!
He now has the biggest fat lip ever!
He has also managed to graze off the skin on the front of his lip with the rope from the swing.
So his mouth looks a horrible mess at the moment and I think it is only going to get worse before it gets better, because it is going to get all dry with the scab and this will bug him for a while.
You can see the split in his lip where he was so lucky because if it had split more then I think he would have had to have had stitches in his lip!
But he had a great morning with his friend from school, so he is not bothered at all.
