Last week we woke to find the Police in our street doing random breath testing! At 7am.
Apparently they still have a very high success rate of catching people over the limit the next morning!
I pointed it out to the boys and explained what they were doing. The boys were quite fascinated about this and carried on the conversation for most of the time whilst getting ready.
They asked all sorts of questions to get an understanding about alcohol and why they were testing people.
When the boys were ready they went outside to watch some more.
Firstly they went out on the pavement on their bikes but one of the Police Officers asked them where their helmets were so they sheepishly came back in again! You must wear a helmet when riding a bike here.
I then went out to them and we stood watching for a while. It was very quiet so I actually walked the boys over to the Officer and asked to look at what they were doing. She gladly obliged and even went so far as to let the boys both be breathalysed.
They thought this was so cool.
When we left the house, I got stopped because I was the driver and consequently was breathalysed, which showed "No Alcohol Present". I would expect nothing less.
Because it was quiet I also asked if she could do Steve as well, I knew he had had some wine after Judo the night before, so was interested to find out if any was still present 11 hours later.
Hey, better to find these things out when in safe conditions than when driving and being pulled over!
She happily obliged to this as well and his too showed "No Alcohol Present".
Just nice to know the effect of a certain amount of wine the night before on your abilities the next morning.
The boys on the other hand were well chuffed that all of the family got breathalysed and passed!
Live for today, but makes sure you have fun and smile along the way. Look for the joy in everything, even if you have been there a thousand times.

Police Building
Last week someone decided it would be fun, in their angry state, to drive into the reception area of the local Police station.
Unfortunately there were 2 sliding glass doors to go through when entering from the street, obviously this did not stop the car.
Today I noticed that the work men were installing 4 metal bollards outside the station, so thatnext time when someone fancies visiting they will have to park their car outside instead.

Alex, Diggers and the Police
And I mean the real Police this time with sirens and ticket books!
Yet again they are digging in our street, well more like finishing off what they started a while ago. Anyway, when we got home from taking Steve to work this morning the boys where playing and I answered the telephone, so I am checking out something on the computer for the person who called and suddenly there is a lady walking down the drive way next to the house saying "maybe mummy is in here" So of course I jump up and run into the garden to find her bringing Alex back into the garden.
She had found him 3 doors down sat on the pavement watching the diggers!
So we walk her back out to the street to see the diggers and Alex promptly runs back to where he was sat and sits down again.
I bring him home and tell him all that was wrong with what he did etc.
About 4 hours later Ben is helping me do something and suddenly he comes back yelling for Alex, I have a quick look round and know exactly where he is, so off down the street I run to find him again, straight past a Police man talking to a kid on a bike!
So I pick up Alex, again tell him not to run off and come back home.
5 minutes later the Policeman is knocking on the door asking if I have lost a baby in a green t-shirt?!
Seems he saw Alex sat on the pavement and this kid on the bike, so he reprimanded the kid first and then dealt with the child in the street, which of course I had rescued, so he gave Alex a little talking to about going off down the street and then left.
So here we are spending the day in the house because up till now, when it has suddenly got very hot and sticky and must be at least 30 deg, it has been raining or at least attempting to rain, and we manage to get the local cops talking to our 2 year old about going off down the street!

The Police

I got Steve tickets to the show for his birthday in December and this past weekend we drove to Auckland, left the kids with a friend and spent the night in a motel.
Some good friends of ours joined us and we had a wonderful weekend of eating dinner out and also having breakfast out on Sunday morning, just what every parent needs the oppotunity to do once in a while.
The concert was amazing, we even had Fergie as an opening act, so it was almost like 2 concerts in 1.
Now I will be the first to admit that the Police are not exactly my most out there favorite band, but I know a lot of their songs, but having said that Fergie is kinda new to me as well.
BUT at the end of the day the concert was fab and I am amazed at how much I enjoy it.
Funny thing is I paid all that money to see my cousin as well, because she was there so we caught up with each other, rather expensive way to meet and say hi, but hey family is family.
