Friday 13th

Yes folks that is correct, it is that special time again when everyone runs round in circles trying to decided if they are suspicious or not.
It is Friday the 13th.

Me, I actually think it is quite a cool day, but then I think my dad had something to do with that because many years ago he started a Friday 13th Club. Got the idea from the US when we lived there.

Now this club could only have 13 people attend the event, there were more registered, and they tried to have a lot of fun. They were all pretty close friends so it did help, although they lived all over England.
Now they did simple things like going out to dinner, where they got the restaurant to produce a menu where the price of everything was $13 or added to 13. To the very wild like spending 26 hours in Amsterdam or going brewery hopping in Edinborough in tuxedos and having to sample 13 different drinks.
The guys all paid $13 a month towards these days so when it came to the day it didn't cost as much, and as they don't happen very often it was simple to get the day off work.

So they embraced the day and had fun with it which I think was great.
I actually went to the first dinner, although in the rules no girls were allowed, but I think a special rule was passed just for that evening as I was the sober driver or something like that.

Flower Friday

It is time again for Flower Friday.

For those of you who don't know what this is then check out here and here, but in general it is where I send someone a link to this post so they can see that I have been thinking of them and have sent them some flowers via the wonderful world of technology.

This week I have chosen to send the flowers to my new Sister in Law Claire. Now she has been my sister in law for just over 4 years now, but they have been living in England and of course I am in New Zealand.
Now that has all changed as my brother and Claire have just moved their family to New Zealand, so I now have the pleasure of actually getting to know my baby brother again, but also get to know his wife. You can check out how they are going here.
So I am giving Claire the flowers this week because she has done a fabulous job looking after her family in a very difficult time. It has now been 4 weeks since they left England and moved to a strange country, staying in a house that is not theirs and will only have limited ability to do anything with it, as it is not theirs. My brother has started his new job, their oldest son has started at the local school and their youngest son is starting Kindergarten in 2 weeks time and throughout all of this Claire has held the family together making sure they all get to where they need to be with their activities.

Everyone is getting to do things but nothing for her, yes she will look at getting a job, but her family comes first and it will have to fit in around this.

So Claire, these thoughtful flowers are for you this week. You are doing a great job and I look forward to spending some great family time with you.

Flower Friday

I actually have several people who I could give these flowers too this week, but for once I am going to be selfish and give them to myself.
Check out this post to find out what Flower Friday is about if you didn't read last weeks.
I have a stinking cold, I feel like crap and I am very proud of myself for managing to survive for 5 days by myself with the boys whilst Steve started his new job in Hamilton.
I am amazed at how well I slept whilst he was away, I usually toss and turn all night and then fall asleep at about 2am.
I managed to get sorted before going to bed each night so it wasn't such a rush in the mornings, although I never did make it to work for 8am all week, but then hey, I only have 2 more weeks left, so who is counting.
I have been good with the boys and they in return have been good for me, with the exception of throwing Alex in the bath last night in his pyjamers, but hey everyone has their bad moments.

So way to go me.

Flower Friday

Flower friday is where I give someone a bunch of daisy's to brighten their day.
I will send them a link to this blog and let them know that I was thinking of them today.

My first recipient of this will be my mother (grandma) who has just had a few yucky days! So mum/grandma here are your daisy's to let you know we are thinking of you.

One of the blogs I follow has always got things happening on certain days:
  1. Favorite Ingredient Friday

  2. Pay It Forward Book Exchange

  3. Slow Cooking Thursday

  4. Works for Me Wednesday

She does all of these things on the blog and uses a link system to keep in touch with other bloggers (something I have yet to work out how it is done! Although I will try and take part in her next recipe swap to find out more.)
So that is what inspired me to do my Flower Fridays.
