We don't have that many trees over looking our garden. In fact only 1 really drops its leaves at this time of the year!
In desperation I told the boys to go and rake up the leaves and then jump in them.
Ben was a little shocked to begin with....'did she just say jump in them?'
So they did and then had a ball.
They actually played 'spot the child' at one stage.
Live for today, but makes sure you have fun and smile along the way. Look for the joy in everything, even if you have been there a thousand times.

Game Time
When we have a weekend at home you can guarantee there will be some arguments over who's turn it is on the Xbox or the Wii or even the computer!
Sometimes it is my husband that joins in the fun and I observe and cringe from the side-lines. I have even been known to be the mean mummy and simply press that ultimate button....you know the one I am talking about.....the ON/OFF switch on the side of the tv!
Occasionally I manage to distract the whole family with something simple like a board game and then suddenly the music goes on the stereo and we enjoy some peaceful family time playing a game.
This is what happened one Saturday evening and it was a great time.
Everyone had a drink and all was right in the world for a time.
So much so that it extended on into Sunday and we all sat round the table eating our sandwiches at lunchtime having another game of Rummikub.
The boys are slowly getting the hand on how to manipulate the tiles on the table and we are also trying to teach them strategy!
We have been known to help them with some moves to hopefully show them some ways to do things that will benefit them, sometimes it sinks in and sometimes not so much, but they have both managed to win a few games so sometimes we leave them to their own devices and they do just fine whipping mum and dad!

A Good Laugh
Every now and then you read something on the internet and it makes you laugh out loud.
Sometimes it is so good you laugh so much you have tears running down your face.
This particular piece did just that for me, enjoy.......
These are complaints a travel agent received from some of their clients.....:
1. "I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts."
2. "It's lazy of the local shopkeepers to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during 'siesta' time -- this should be banned."
3. "On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don't like spicy food at all."
4. "We booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our swimming costumes and towels."
5. "The beach was too sandy."
6. "We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as yellow but it was white."
7. "Topless sunbathing on the beach should be banned. The holiday was ruined as my husband spent all day looking at other women."
8. "No-one told us there would be fish in the sea. The children were startled."
9. "There was no egg-slicer in the apartment."
10. "We went on holiday to Spain and had a problem with the taxi drivers as they were all Spanish."
11. "The roads were uneven.."
12. "It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home."
13. "I compared the size of our one-bedroom apartment to our friends' three-bedroom apartment and ours was significantly smaller."
14. "The brochure stated: 'No hairdressers at the accommodation'. We're trainee hairdressers -- will we be OK staying there?"
15. "There are too many Spanish people. The receptionist speaks Spanish. The food is Spanish. Too many foreigners now live abroad."
16. "We had to queue outside with no air-conditioning."
17. "It is your duty as a tour operator to advise us of noisy or unruly guests before we travel."
18. "I was bitten by a mosquito. No-one said they could bite."
19. "My fiancé and I booked a twin-bedded room but we were placed in a double-bedded room. We now hold you responsible for the fact that I find myself pregnant. This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked."
Have a great week :)

Q is for Quack Quack
My cousin seems to have set up an annual duck race for her birthday.
We held the event last year and even though we missed the year before that (2010) this year would be the 3rd time it has been held.
What ever happens, a lot of fun is had by all.
This last weekend was the momentous date in time and once more we gathered as a family to have mad antics and joviality.
Then it was on to the racing....
At the end, Ben got a little too close to the edge of the lake and managed to slip in, so here he is in a towel and my cousins shirt!
Luckily it was a glorious day and it didn't bother him too much.
Great fun was had by all, roll on next year, more rivalry and mayhem to ensure.

I cross stitched this for Lucy's Birthday |
After reading the post from last year you get the drift of the day.
A BBQ lunch by the lake, followed by a manic family duck race down an inlet to the lake.
Decoration and dress up of the ducks could get you added bonuses or it may even hinder you floating abilities in the race.

This years birthday cake was cupcakes with ducks on |
Yummy |
Then it was on to the racing....
The ducks get thrown from this bridge |
float down this water |
mad race to the end |
Nephew at the end rescuing ducks before they disappear out to the lake! |
Ben's got stuck in a bush and never finished so mummy to the rescue |
Go mummy |

Babies
Alex is our nuturing and caring one in the family, well after me that is.
He loves babies.
If we had gone on to have a 3rd child I would have had a mother's helper from day 1, in fact I probably would have had to fight him for the baby sometimes.
He patiently waited 2 days to manage to get a snuggle with Dylan whilst in Nelson!
There was always someone else getting a snuggle before him (not always me) or because Dylan was only 6 weeks old he was tired, grouchy or even hungry and screamed the moment Alex had hold of him.
Finally on the Sunday, there was hardly anyone around, he had had a good sleep followed by a good feed and we managed to catch 15 minutes for Alex to have him

So cute.

Funtimes
At the weekend when we visited the scarecrows they had a table set up with boards so you could take your own fun pictures.
So my family happily obliged for me.
I am thankful for modern technology that allowed me to have some fun pictures of my wonderful family and to me for having a steady hand whilst doing a close up shot of them getting these great pictures.

Family Fun
Back at the beginning of 2006, after I had returned to work after having Alex, I came across a website called Family Fun. It is a site and organisation that is run in part by Disney.
It is a website dedicated to everything to do with fun in the family.
They even have a magazine that is produced 10 times per year. They only produce 1 edition over July and August (summer holiday time) and again in December and January (Christmas holiday time).
It is happily delivered to New Zealand and is usually only about a week or 2 out. (I just received October's the other day) Although there are not many competitions that you can enter because sadly you do need to be an citizen of US to enter, but that is no worry. Also if there was a specially celebration holiday at the beginning of the month, you may find they had a great idea for an activity that sadly gets to you too late, but by checking out the website often you can see it on there first before receiving the magazine!
From reading that last section you have by now worked out that this is in fact an American publication. I haven't found anything I can't adapt yet and yes sadly the magazine for summer activities does arrive slap bang in the middle of our winter but I see that as giving me plenty of planning time for the summer months ahead.
Go check them out here and see if you can't find something that will work for your family.
A couple of months ago they celebrated 20 years of Family Fun by giving you a chart to collect the monthly Badges of Fun on.
These badges are available 1 per month and gives you 10 activites to complete throughout the year.
In June the badge was Backyard Fun where you had to do something outside with the family.
In July the badge was Preserve Family Memories where you had to find a way to remember
In August the badge was Hit The Road where you had to take a family trip together, whether to Grandmas or the supermarket!
In September the badge was Learn Something New where you had to do something as a family that was new to you all.
Now in October the badge is Family Night Fun where you have to do something fun with the family at night. Play outside, games night etc.
Without realising it we have managed to complete all of these and I haven't even told the family that we are doing it!
Maybe it is time to sit them down and let them know what we have achieved so far and make plans for how to achieve the others as they come up each month.
I love receiving my magazine and seeing what fun activities are suggested. There are awesome art creations as well but I have never ventured there but if you were a school teacher, kindy teacher or daycare person you may find some wonderful ideas on things to make with the kids etc.
In another post sometime I will write about what we have done to achieve each badge, if you start completing the badges, then let me know. Would love to see what you did.

Flying By......!
Time really does fly by when you are having fun.
Just read on my dashboard that I last posted on July 23, geez that was almost 4 weeks ago, life must have been good.
Life is good actually.
The family have suddenly discovered the joy of actually helping around the house and therefore having time to themselves.
For the last 2 weekends the boys have happily helped with what ever chores need completing, this has then been reflected in the fact that we all get to spend Sunday doing what ever we want.
Sitting around watching movies, reading books, filling the lounge floor with train track or lego.
Guilt free I have managed to sit and read a book and not worry that washing needs folding and put away or vacuuming done, cause it has all been finished and completed by the whole family.
However I am not holding my breath over how long this may last!
But if there is any one up there listening to my prayers.....then please help me to make this last at least a few more weeks.

Another Birthday and Family Fun
Take one crazy family ......... hum, think that would have to be my one!
Take another birthday, which we seem to have lots of in this family.
Mix it all together with ...........a duck race!
Yes you read right...a duck race.
And what follows is a mad series of pictures depicting our fun filled afternoon in the sun throwing plastic ducks down a small stream leading into a lake!

It was a wonderful family fun filled afternoon, with lots of laughs and crazyness. Apparently there is talk of an annual event, so watch this space for next years adventures.

The birthday cake |
decoration of the ducks was desired |
some people have wonderful ideas, but will it help them win the race....? |
Some ducks were spoilt with flowers |
others were prepared for a long ride with supplies |
luckily none of them sank! |
however some did manage to find the bushes |
so out went the cavalry |
No duck got left to float away on the lake! |
And at the end we all celebrated with gorgeous cake |
