Glue Ear

Ben has Glue Ear. I thought we had managed to pass by all this seeing as he had made it to school, had not had hardly any ear infections and has no real problems, apart from his pronouciation of words!

So when the ear nurse told us he has glue ear, we were a little shocked.
I googled 'Glue Ear' and this is what I got.....

Glue ear is when fluid is present in the middle ear, an air-filled space, behind the eardrum.
It is different to an ear infection when the fluid in the middle ear is infected, and the eardrum is red and bulging, causing fever and earache in your child. When an ear infection has resolved, this infected fluid becomes sterile but, it is still present. This is glue ear. The eardrum in front of this fluid is no longer red and inflamed.

We have an appointment today with a specialist. We decided that even though we only got diagnosed with this problem last week, we were not messing around with his hearing.
We may need grommets or we may just need a long course of antibugs (think I would prefer the grommets, at least then we don't have to fight with Ben morning and night to take his medicine!)

So will keep you posted as to what the specialist says this afternoon.
